Agreed, I thought cresswell had a really good game. Seemed to have rediscovered half a yard of pace again too

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Fulham - Official Match Thread
Wasnt pretty but a big win and a well needed 3 points

We could of scored 3 or 4 in the first 5-10 mins. We started bright but let them grow into the game in the first half

Second half we started to get control towards the end, with Haller up top though it requires runners in behind which we always struggle with.

Benrahma made a difference, he can skip past players and beat a man......it makes a difference in those sort of games. He starts for me at Sheff Utd.

Thought Soucek, Rice and Cresswell played well. Coufal works hard but his quality in the final third was poor. Fornals also needs to make more happen of his own accord if he is going to be a top attacking midfielder in the prem. He is fine when he is played in or falls to him but he never really makes a oppourtunity for himself. His passing and playmaking also needs to be alot better.

Finally the Fulham pen.......its a shocking decision.......Refs need to stop giving a pen every time their is contact in the box. The rule is its a pen if its a FOUL in the box not if theres contact. From the replays i thought it was pretty obvious that Cairney has looked up in the dying seconds......seen theres nothing on and just gone for a gap and hit the deck. Benrahma has hardly touched him and not enough to warrant him going down. Outside the box im not sure thats a foul. Yet again VAR has had a shocker of a weekend. The issue with is that it is still far to subjective, someone has to sit there and make a decision with the technology. If the technology applies a algorithm and makes the decisions then fine but as it is its 3 men in a room making mistakes and ruining the game. Go back to the ref on the pitch making mistakes and lets get back to games flowing and more emotion and drama when a goal goes in.

IMO that was Rice and Soucek's least influential game for some time, the positives are that we won and one of them scored. We have come a long way in a short space of time, but it still early days.

toad, son - I'm probably one of Anderson's biggest critics on here. The point is he is 'meant' to be one of our creative players, but because it hasn't worked out we are now one down on supposed creative players. Can't believe you needed that to be spoon fed.

Anderson did not give us creativity, he gave us fuck all. He had pace yes, but he never used it.

Manuel 5:43 Mon Nov 9
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Fulham - Official Match Thread
Agree we lack creativity in midfield (and pace) especially after Anderson has left, Lanzini looking pretty much done, and Yarmalenko not looking up to what is required, which is why I thought we needed the Brentford lad

I'd say we are more of a workmanlike side right now, which is okay to a point, but in tight matches you need players that can unlock the door. Look at the best sides, they all have plenty of flair players. Lampard bought 4 or 5 of them in the summer. It's not a coincidence.

Thought it was encouraging that Moyes was still unhappy with many things on Saturday despite winning. We've even had managers that have looked happy after defeats, so good to see. He is going to need another 2 or 3 windows to hopefully see his own side, and hope we start bringing in some players that can get bums off of seats, even if nobody is in the seats.

The BBC gave the WH MotM to Souckec. Yes, he scored but that was about it.

I'd have given it to Cresswell.

People who think we should be happy with every win, I agree. I hate that arrogant attitude that we SHOULD be beating teams like Fulham.

On the other hand, you’re only being honest by admitting that we were lucky to get three points. We didn’t play well. We let them control the midfield. Our goal could have been called back for offside and their penalty taker saved us with a horrific penalty attempt.

I think the tactics that worked so well against the big sides when we had Antonio aren’t going to work so well with the other sides when we don’t have Antonio.

We’ll probably keep this formation until we lose, or at least draw, against a team like Fulham, but we definitely need more creativity and attacking flair in midfield. We’re not going to be able to play counterattacking so well without Antonio, or against teams that will sit back against us.

Pointing out the potential weaknesses in our set up isn’t the same as moaning about a win.

We also missed Antonio’s pace - having someone quick up front like that pushes the opposition back a few yards straight away and limits their midfield more

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Fulham - Official Match Thread
Yep Stepney that is the new normal on penalties:-(

Fulham have a decent midfield ( strongest area of their team imo ) and problem we had in part was their movement especially centrally. Fornals, Soucek and even Rice to an extent are one paced and the first 2 are not what you would call mobile. Arfur and Bowen can move a bit but collectively we are slower than most teams in the division. If that team moves and passes well we struggle to get the ball regardless of whether they are in the top or lower end of the table. Fortunately Fulham’s efforts came to very little as they struggle to create and finish chances as they have in all their games. Their effort resulted in them tiring for the last 20 mins and they started to drop deeper to get at least a point in the game. We then finally started to dominate possession especially when we added some mobility with Lanzini and Benrahma.

We need another central midfielder with energy and strength in the squad. I think Moyes has said as much. Maybe why we are supposedly interested in Lundstrum from Sheffield Utd for Jan ?

Masu MoM, ridiculous. He's our worst player does nothing of note but gives away needless fouls.

State of the pens awarded today for 'handball' and the two we've conceded in our last couple of games.

So the rules around penalties are basically anything which hits an arm in the box is a penalty. Also any form of physical contact in the box regardless of how slight or miniscule is also a penalty.

What a load of fucking shit.

Wasn't feeling too great and fell asleep at the start of the 2nd half. Woke up and tben found out we'd won. Saw the pen on MoTD. That poor bloke is gonna take ages to live that down. Appalling.

Anyone else think that it wasn’t a penalty?

Looks like no one can be tackled in the box anymore

I’m not sure anyone realistically thinks we are a top side yet. The difference between relegation and mid-table is wins like this though.
